The Civic Action and Engagement Initiative is currently advocating for the following bills to be passed in Congress --

Marriage Bills
Bills S.2767 and H.R. 5048 -- SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act
  • Increases the resource/asset limit for Supplemental Security Income to $10,000 for individuals and $20,000 for married couples, adjusting the limits for inflation in the future as well. 
Bill H.R. 7138 -- SSI Restoration Act
  • Eliminates the "hold-out" penalty for those with Supplemental Security Income and other outdated provision and omissions of Title XVI of the Social Security Act.
Bill H.R. 7055 -- Eliminating the Marriage Penalty in SSI Act (EMPSA)
  • Amends Title XVI of the Social Security Act to provide that the Supplemental Security Income benefits of adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities are not reduced by reason of marriage.
Bill H.R. 6640 - Marriage Equality for Disabled Adults Act
  • Secures the rights and dignity of marriage for Disabled Adult Children (DAC) by eliminating the 25% marriage penalty.
