Group Guidelines
1. Life in Waves is an open group. The only requirements for participation are that members be women living in New Jersey who have experienced emotional, physical or sexual intimidation or abuse in the workplace. This includes but is not limited to women and those who identify as female and non-binary. Life in Waves also welcomes members of all age, race, ethnicity, and national origin, range of abilities, sexual orientation, and background.
2. The only focus for Life in Waves is the mental health of our members and their empowerment. We are not affiliated with any individual workplace and do not engage with any outside controversy. Life in Waves also does not engage in any discussion about any on-going legal matters.
3. Life in Waves is a peer-led support group that encourages empowerment and advocacy and as such recognizes that group members may seek outside assistance at any point. Life in Waves also provides information about other professional resources for members should they decide to pursue outside professional assistance.
4. Life in Waves will be run by trained volunteers of the Mental Health Association in Atlantic County who act as group facilitators. The group facilitators will open the meeting, introduce the meeting topic, facilitate the sharing process, keep track of time, and close the meeting. Group facilitators and members will collaborate to ensure everyone has the chance to share their experiences while ensuring meetings flow in a timely manner.
5. Anonymity is the foundation of this group. Remaining anonymous at meetings helps members feel safe to share openly and honestly about their experiences with common challenges faced at work and at home. Life in Waves seeks to protect anonymity by upholding the following requirements.
As a Life in Waves member, you MUST NOT:
❖ Refer to each other by full name during meetings. You will refer to one another by first names or aliases only.
❖ Refer to any persons outside of the group by name or by any identifying details. You will instead use the term “A Person in my Life” and “They/them” pronouns.
❖ Discuss or disclose any specific locations including but not limited to those within the workplace.
❖ Discuss or disclose information about any on-going legal proceedings regarding yourself or others within the group.
❖ Discuss what was said at meetings to anyone outside of the group in any way.
❖ Discuss who attended meetings to anyone outside of the group in any way.
❖ Acknowledge, identify, or greet someone as a member of this group in public or at work.
❖ Use phones or other devices during meetings.
6. Empowerment for all members depends on unity. Together, we all bear responsibility to keep each Life in Waves meeting helpful and safe. Life in Waves facilitators and members will make sure that meetings maintain a respectful environment.
